“Education is not a preparation for life; education is life itself” – John Dewey.
It is through education, that we have the ability to change and improve the world in which we live. Knowledge imparted to young minds is not confined to the walls of the classroom. When Children have a good foundation of values, they have a solid basis for the proper use of knowledge.
The world has witnessed cataclysmic changes in the last fifty years. As Alvin Toffler said, “It is as if a third wave of change has overtaken civilization. Technology has touched every aspect of our life. The pursuit of knowledge is an endless endeavour. Cut-throat competition, the rat race for quick success, the pressure to excel is taking a heavy toll on our youth, robbing them of their childhood joys.”
Society has entered a new phase, the theory of living being ‘I, me and myself’. The growing globalization and liberalization has added to this way of thinking. Modern marvels have lent us wonderful inventions to lead a comfortable existence, but we need to balance this in harmony with God and the laws of nature, giving due weightage to values and empathy to share another’s feelings and emotions, so that we can understand the pangs of suffering of a fellow human being.
As in the words of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam – “If only everyone was taught the right values of life pertaining to the actual goal of human life, right from ones formative years, it would bring about the desired transformation in the global human psyche, leading to peace, tranquility and positivism in life.”
How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and the deprived. If you set out to do something good, the entire Universe conspires to help you. Be like a lighthouse shining the beacon of hope and assurance to your family, community and your nation. Wherever this lighthouse exists, people will naturally gather in search of the path that leads to light and happiness
