Exploring Ancient Astronomy Through Students’ Endeavors

Parle Tilak Vidyalaya (ICSE) has always nurtured curiosity and fostered a passion for knowledge among its students which is exemplified  through the continuous efforts to encourage students to delve into research projects. The Principal, Dr. (Mrs.) Arnavaz Bhagat, presented the students research work on Ancient Indian Astronomy in the form of a manuscript and a Powerpoint Presentation to the Director of the Nehru Planetarium, Mr. Arvind Paranjape, on 13th September, 2023.

The students were mentored by Mr.Rakesh Gandhi, Asst. Physics teacher and Mrs. Ramya Narsana, Asst. Geography teacher, on the topic ‘Glimpse of Ancient Indian Astronomy ‘.  The work was much appreciated by Mr. Paranjpe. He further intended to collaborate with PTV (ICSE)  to undertake initiatives like providing internship programmes for the school students; especially girls,  who have completed Masters in Physics;  participation of Science Teachers of the school  in ‘Teachers Meet ‘, student participation in sessions organized by Nehru Planetarium to teach students certain science topics like light, magnetism etc., and provide outside classroom experiences to name a few.
The submission of the research was a testament to the students’ commitment to preserving and celebrating the rich legacy of ancient astronomy.
