Anti-Bullying Awareness Session: Stop Bullying, Start Respecting

An Anti-Bullying Awareness Session was conducted for students of Grades VII and VIII at Parle Tilak Vidyalaya (ICSE) by Ms. Archana Rushal Padhye, Psychologist, Psychotherapist, and Founder of Manogat – Mending Minds. The session, themed “Bullying, Power & Digital Responsibility – Stop Bullying, Start Respecting,” aimed to sensitise students to the causes, effects and prevention of bullying.

The session explored various forms of bullying, including physical, verbal, social and cyberbullying. Students learnt that bullying may arise from the desire for power or control, peer pressure, insecurity, prejudice or a lack of empathy. The difference between harmless teasing, joking, conflict and bullying was clearly explained.

The discussion highlighted the serious effects of bullying on a student’s self-confidence, friendships, concentration and emotional well-being. Body shaming, hurtful comments and the misuse of social media were also addressed, emphasising the need for responsible digital behaviour and respectful communication.

To empower students to tackle bullying, Ms. Padhye introduced the 4 R’s – Recognise, Refuse, Report and Reach Out. Students were encouraged to recognise bullying, refuse to participate in or encourage it, report incidents to trusted adults, and reach out to support those affected. The importance of being an upstander rather than a silent bystander was reinforced through interactive activities and real-life situations.

The session concluded with a powerful message that every student deserves to feel safe, valued and respected. It encouraged students to practise empathy, speak up against bullying and contribute towards creating a compassionate, inclusive and bully-free school environment.
