Khari Kamai – A Journey from Learning to Earning

As part of the Bagless Days initiative, students of Grades 6, 7 and 8 of Parle Tilak Vidyalaya ICSE enthusiastically participated in the Khari Kamai activity, an experiential learning initiative designed to nurture entrepreneurial skills and financial literacy. The students showcased their culinary creativity by preparing and selling delicacies, including sandwiches, corn chaat and canapés, to their fellow students.

The activity offered a meaningful opportunity to translate classroom learning into practical experience. Students gained first-hand insights into the fundamentals of entrepreneurship, including budgeting, costing, expense management, pricing, sales and profit calculation. They also learnt the importance of resource optimisation, teamwork, meticulous planning, effective communication and maintaining hygiene and quality standards while preparing food.

Beyond its entrepreneurial dimension, the activity instilled a deeper sense of social consciousness and compassion. The proceeds generated from the sale will be contributed towards a noble cause, reinforcing the values of generosity, empathy and community service.

The Khari Kamai initiative proved to be an enriching and empowering learning experience, fostering financial awareness, self-confidence, accountability and a spirit of collaboration. It effectively bridged the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application, while imparting an invaluable lesson: the true value of earning lies not merely in the money earned, but also in the knowledge gained and the lives touched through one’s efforts.
