Antiquity of Indian Astronomy

For over thousands of years, India has been home to one of the fascinating intellectual endeavours that humankind has ever recorded. India, one of the oldest civilizations of the world, has a strong tradition of science and technology. Ancient India was not only a land of sages and seers but also a land of scholars and scientists. It has been proved through studies that the first documented records of astronomical observations arose in ancient India. Through our stall, “Antiquity of Indian Astronomy”, we wish to exhibit the unmatched understanding and mastery of astronomy that the ancient Indians have achieved through prolonged observations, especially with the naked eye and simple tools, at times aided by techniques that we seem to discard as crude and primitive.
